Wild Type/Normal
Many things can be said about blood pythons, but I believe there is nothing "normal" about them.
I prefer the term Wild Type, as it truly reflects the “wild” variety of naturally occurring appearances these snakes display. Blood pythons come in a wide range of colors. The most representative are Red, Orange, Yellow, and Brown. This fantastic quality allows keepers to explore the possibilities of Line breeding animals for a specific color Pallet to refine the overall snake look.
Many breeders have taken this route, skipping morphs altogether and achieving outstanding results. Thanks to these efforts, we have established Bloodlines of captive breed animals with some of the most colorful Blood Pythons on the planet.
Some examples of these bloodlines are Marter, Lyly, Redbull, Hamburg Steal, Raspberry, and Bangka**. All these examples are line-bred for their exceptional Red coloration.
Although blood pythons are known to be “Red” snakes, the potential for other line-bred colors like Orange, Yellow, and Brown is now being explored by some passionate keepers. These projects are still in their infancy and hold tremendous potential for the future of blood pythons in captivity.
Please check Kara and Ryan Norris's website for more examples of exceptional line-bred blood pythons. They have done a tremendous job producing some of the most incredible line-bred blood pythons on the planet. bloodpythons.com
** Bangka is a locality of blood pythons that originated on the island of Bangka, east of Sumatra. This locality is known for producing naturally pink/red blood pythons.
